These days now that we are in a situation where everyone is locked in their home and the office work has now become your homework. There are many things that you need to look at, when you are a parent and working for home. It’s not an easy thing to work from your home and take care of your kids at the same time. So in this article, we are going to talk about tips for successful parenting while working from home.
Make a schedule
When you are working from home there should be a time schedule to take care of all your work. You can check the time when your kids will sleep, watch, and play. So all that time you can be in your room and work in peace. Now you can be really flexible while making a schedule, feel free to include as many people as you can to help you. Also, make sure that your work schedule never comes between lunchtime or dinner time of your kids.
Interact with your kids
When you are working from home one of the best thing about it is that you can rest when you want and take small breaks while working. So after every hour or 2 hours give yourself a little break for 15 minutes to 30 minutes. That will make you feel better and use that time to interact with your kids. As interacting with your kids is really important to build trust and keep the bond between you and your kids and it also helps you feel relaxed and wonderful.
Switch it up with your partner
The best thing to do while working from home is to make shifts with your partner. This way both of you can do your work peacefully and you both will be able to interact and watch your kids while the other person is doing their work. You can do the morning and evening shift so everyone has time to sit together while eating lunch and dinner and you don’t miss any important family time.
Lay down some rules
Now we all know that no matter how much we hate kids are always going to be kids. They will probably come into your room and disturb you while you are working. Mess up with your things and work, so it’s better to make sure you lay down some rules in front of your kids. They should know that if they disturb you it won’t be good at all. Now it’s up to you what rules you decide to keep and what rules they need to follow.
Understand that you will have difficulty
People always think that if they make a schedule and do exactly as they plan. Things are going to go their way which is not true at all. When you are a parent there will be times when things will never go the way you thought it would. Like I just said kids are always going to be kids. No matter what you do you cannot change that fact, sometimes they listen and sometimes they don’t. So you need to accept that and just move on. When that happens, you should not get angry or panic, just stop your work for a while and play with them and listen to what they want. Then after a while just get back to what you were doing.
Prepare everything before you attend a meeting
Now if you have a big meeting coming up and you don’t want your kids barging into your room and disturbing your meeting just for asking for food and milk. So make sure you do all the basic preparations before you attend your meeting. Make the food, keep it in the tupper or microwave oven and tell your kids about where everything is so they don’t disturb you later.
Work right next to your kids
Now, this might not be everyone’s cup of tea but if you can work right next to your kids that will help you a lot. Just like many TV hosts are doing in the time of COVID-19. Take your desk and place it just in the living room or hall where your kids spend most of their time. This way you can feel secure about your kids and work while spending time with them.
Hire a babysitter
Now this isn’t really a tip that you can use during COVID-19, but this is the best thing you can do as a parent in every situation. When you have to work you can always hire a babysitter for 4 to 5 hours while you work in your room. This will give you peace of mind knowing that your kids are safe and someone is there watching them.
